Our kitchen faucet broke, so I was able to upgrade..pretty nice! Jerry went on the internet and found Osborn Plumbing to install it for us...that is after he ...well you can figure out the rest!!!! Skip, the plumber, said he could have saved us ALOT of money if we would have called him FIRST! He told Jerry to stick to driving..he wasn't a plumber!!! It is a beauty though!!
As you can see Charles and Jerry were having fun trying out the old phone and trying to open the safe!! Some people never grow up, but they were having fun!!! 
We visited the Capital of Texas Zoo, miles back off the road. There were over 150 animals, approximately 55 exhibits. These are just a few of the animals that appeared to be used to posing!!!
We attended the Cowboy Church Sunday with Tanya. We really enjoyed it and hope she goes back. The preacher was all cowboy!! He's a roper and has a ranch too. In the old days, they had church at the roping arena, on the property too.
er trough. That morning they had a dedication and also a potluck for the young man in the picture as he is going to Iraq. We are going back Wed. evening for their Bible Study.

Tanya getting ready to swing from the rope on the five mile river. Her and Jon and friends enjoyed a day at the five mile river swinging from the rope into the river, floating on the inner tubes. The went home a little sunburned, but they had a blast!! We didn't go as we got into town later that day, but she showed us pictures.
This is a another beautiful historic home, H. B. Combs House, 1208 church, Circa 1912. The week June 9 through June 16, 2007, Bastrop is Celebrating it's 175th birthday and Juneteenth Celebration. A week-long tribute to "the most historic small town in Texas - Bastrop!
One of the older denominations in Bastrop, the church family existed as early as 1857, conducting services in the old courthouse building prior to the acquisition of this property. In 1867, the "little rock church" was built on this site. The deed to the property was obtained on September 25, 1867, and signed by H.K. McDonald, giving possession of the lot for a consideration of $1.00 to the new owner, J.H. Wilkins. The church building of New England Victorians architecture was erected in the spring of 1895 and chartered on November 22 of that year.
The parish was organized in 1869 by the first Episcopal Bishop of Texas, Alexander Gregg. The local Methodist church was used one Sunday each month for services. When the Rev. John Phillips, left his denomination to become the first Rector of Calvary, it caused dissension between the two congregations, and the Episcopal Church was denied further use of the building. Services were held in a building Colonel Higgins owned for a dozen years until the present church building was built. The first services were held in 1883. In 1997, the needs of the growing congregation led to expansion of the church.
This is the H.P. Luckett House, 1402 Church Circa 1892. Used to today as a military academy.
W. J. Miley built and opened a drug store at 1003 Main in 1905, complete with a soda fountain which is still in operation. 
I insisted we sit at the soda fountain and shared a strawberry milkshake. This site has been occupied since 1855, serving as the office of Dr. David Sayers, father of the turn-of-the-century Texas Govern Joseph Sayers of Bastrop. 
What better person to catch the bank robbers!!! I wanted a picture of Jerry behind the counter looking like he is working. He does, however, it looked more like a jail!!! 
The First National Bank, built in 1889-90, currently houses the Bastrop "Old Town" Visitor Center. All the equipment in the bank, telephone, safe and, and register, are as they were during that time period. The building was beautifully maintained. Another First National Bank was built across the street and much larger. Our tour guide was as old as the bank...just kidding. She said her son played basketball in the same town where my daughter lives...all she ever heard she said was, "Dale..Dale...Dale. She knows the town very well!!!
The town of Bastrop was formally established on June 8, 1832, as the principal settlement in the Stephen F. Austin Little Colony of 1827. The founding grant, signed by Mexican Land Commissioner Jose Miguel de Ariniega, recognized the special nature of the locale as the "place on Colorado River where it crosses the road which goes from Texas (San Antonio) t0 Nacogdoches..considering it to be a very suitable site for the founding of a new town. Bastrop now represents a blending of the old and new.
This young man was really proud to display his Texas Gar, which was caught in the Colorado River, from the dock of the RV park we are staying in. Pretty ugly the gar that is!
